Jude Kingshott: Creative Book Binding

Wednesday 13th  Thursday 14th & Friday 15th January 2021 10:00-16:00

We are thrilled to be welcoming Mixed Media Artist Jude Kingshott to the studio for three days of Book Binding, 'One Page Wonders' and Creative Concertina Books.
On this course you will create a small collection of unique and individual books.
We begin with a pamphlet book, allowing you to learn the basics; folding, cutting and simple binding.
Progressing to an individual sketchbook, this includes a covered end board (using your won fabric or paper), and is finished with Coptic binding.
Then we explore the possibilities of the concertina and 'one page' books to further develop your skills.
There will also be time for mark making on paper using a variety of inks, stamps and paint.
£230 including lunches and most materials.



Etka Kaul: Stitched Story Maps

Wednesday 10th  & Thursday 11th February 2021 10:00-16:00

Maps are incredibly powerful tools for storytelling. They have been used throughout history and can also be highly personal and intimate in scale. In this two day course taught by textile artist Ekta Kaul, you will learn how to use stitch to create commemorative maps celebrating our personal stories. Students will draw inspiration from photos, maps, found objects and souvenirs, Under Ekta's gentle guidance, you will learn to create visual compositions using personal starting points and then translate them onto stitched patterns and textures. Ekta will share processes she uses in her own exquisite and timeless work.
£180 including lunches.


Sue Brown: Gum Arabic & Mixed Media on Fabric

Friday 5th & Saturday 6th March 2021 10:00-16:00

Spend an inspiring two days with print maker Sue Brown learning all about her signature technique, Gum Arabic Printing, as well as experimenting with acrylic resist, mono printing, stitch and stamping to name just a few. You will create a collection of complex and exciting fabrics using traditional and non-traditional methods. You will also be shown how to transform your printed fabrics into a series of fabulously textural textile books.

Ruth Issett: Surfaces to dye for 

Wednesday 10th & Thursday 11th March 2021 10:00-16:00

We're thrilled that Ruth will be returning in 2021... Create layered and stitched surfaces using natural un dyed fabrics, and then colour them using a direct dye painting method.
Layers of un dyed fabric and threads will be combined in a variety of manners, either by hand or machine, providing the opportunity to create manipulated and richly embellished surfaces. Once stitching is complete students will dye paint their work in their selected colour scheme.
A really enjoyable course will using Procion Mx dyes, un dyed natural fabrics and threads from any of the following fibres – cotton, silk, linen, hemp, viscose and rayon.
A course for those who love of fabrics, stitching and a chance to explore glorious colour!

Angie Hughes: Inspired by Klimt

Monday 15th March  2021 10:00-16:00

There is a wealth if inspiration in the work of Gustav Klimt. Work with textile artist Angie Hughes to put together a simple design on cotton velvet. You'll be working with transfoils, sweetie foils, silks and organza. This will be topped off with an afternoon of machine embroidery, Perfect for all abilities. £60 including lunch. Sewing machine required.
