Textile Explorations:
Monthly course

Each year from September through to June we run a once-a-month art textiles course on various weekdays; Monday/Wednesday/Thursday/Friday 10:00-15:30
The next course ‘Making your mark’ will commence in September/October 2026
We will explore mark making and line as a starting point and how these can be translated onto fabric with print and stitch.
Throughout the course we spend time developing ideas in a sketchbook, then go on to colour and print a collection of fabrics and papers. These will be used in creating a series of textile art pieces/textile books. Along the way explore a variety of surface print techniques, as well as how to incorporate stitch.
Priority places are given to current groups - e'mail if you'd like to be kept in the loop!

Liske & Claire are excitied to bring you a monthly Wednesday evening creative session, the focus of these will be on well-bring and mindfullness.
These sessions are suitable for all levels of experience. They are for anyone who enjoys being creative, trying new styles of work, and meeting like-minded people.
Numbers will be limited so you do need to book your place, the session will run from 7pm-9pm.
£10 per session including materials and refreshments.
Studio Days

Each month Liske runs a 'studio day' (sometimes two) in which you can come and take advantage of the space and facilities to work on your own projects. At the same time spending a creative day with like-minded people.
You can make use of the screens, fabric paints, dyes and more. Or bring along your WIP & sewing machine... whatever takes your fancy!

Gelli Print - Collage - Landscape

Saturday 31st January 2026, 10:00-16:00 *1 place remaining
Spend the morning getting to grips with gelli plate printning in order to build a collection of coloured papers with subtle marks and textures. Claire will guide you through a variety of techniques.
In the afternoon we will take inspiration from the work of artist Barbara Rae to create a vibrant layered landscape.
This can then be worked onto with additional layers of marks, line and stitch.
£75 including all materials and refreshments.
Abstract Landscape :
Improvised Patchwork

Friday 20th & Saturday 21st February 2026, 10:00-16:00 *1 place remaining
A new 2-day workshop for winter 2026. Taking colour inspiration from your local landscape, or somewhere sepcial to you we will spend the first day creating improvised blocks using a simple but effective patchwork technique.
This is a perfect way to use your own fabrics, or you can delve into our collection of hand dyed fabrics.
These blocks will then be composed to create a landscape inspired hanging which we will add to further with hand and/or machine quilting.
£150 including most materials and refreshments. Own sewing machine required.
Colour Families with
Thermofax Screen Printing

Wednesday 11th & Thursday 12th March 2026 *Full, e'mail to go on waiting list
A must-do course for anyone interested in dyeing their own fabrics!
Spend a colourful couple of days at the studio learning how to use procion MX dyes to develop an extensive pallette.
Create harmonious colour families and go on to explore these colours further with various mark-making techniques and thermofax printing.
You will build up a detailed visual reference of a number of colour schemes on fabric as well as learning the method to explore any colour and value scheme of your choice.
You will also create exciting pieces of cloth along the way!
£150 including refreshments and most materials.
Vase of Flowers :
Textile Collage & Stitch

Saturday 28th March, 10:00-16:00 *1 place remaining
Spend a colourful day creating a vibrant vase of spring flowers that will last forever.
Liske & Claire will guide you through the porcess of creating your collage, and sharing some short-cuts along the way! You can use your own fabric off-cuts or take advantage of our hand-dyed and printed fabrics.
Your finished piece will be A3 size, and perfect to frame or mount on a canvas.
Sewing machine and some sewing experience required.
£75 including some materials and refreshments.
Marks in Nature : Triptych

Thursday 9th & Friday 10th April 2026, 10:00-15:30 *Full

This new course brings you elements from Liske's monthly 'Marks in Nature' course.
Taking inspiration from the natural world create a pair of handmade stamps.
We will add colour, pattern and marks to a variety of fabric weights using your stamps as well as the collection of thermofax screens that we have at the studio.
Your fabrics will then be collaged to create a triptych which will be enhanced further with stitch and leyering.
We will also explore free motion stitch with water soluble fabric to create detailed components that can be added onto your piece of work.
Final piece will be approx 40-50cm square. Some experience of free motion stitch would be beneficial, own sewing machine required.

Spring Slow Stitch :

'Spring Bluebells' - A slow stitch / hand stitch seasonal textile course. Come along for a relaxed day of collage and hand stitch and make a Spring Bluebells wall hanging. A chance to take time out, slow down and enjoy creating your own little piece of Springtime, as you ease your way into the colours of the season.
A kit will be provided, but you may want to bring your own Spring inspired coloured fabric scraps and threads to incorporate into your piece.
No experience needed.

Colour - Composition - Stitch

In this new worshop we will put together a lovely colourful slow-stitch project.
This has been inspired by a piece of work by Ineke Berlyn, and as well as looking at Mum's work, we will also take inspiration from the work of artist Paul Klee.
Working with hand-dyed fabrics along with layers of sheer fabric we will spend time looking at shape and composition to put together a strip-style piece textile hanging (approx 6" x 30").
We'll get going with some kantha style stitching which can then be continued at home.

Introduction to Breakdown Screen Printing

Breakdown screen printing is my absolute favourite way to create fabrics that are unique, it's an exciting process which produces fabrics that can't be replicated.
Spend two days creating a collection of breakdown printed fabrics whch can then be used in your own projects.
Breakdown screens are created by using thickened procion dyes which can then be printed onto natural fabrics.
No experience needed.

Introduction to shibori dyeing with Indigo

Wednesday 1st July 2026 10:00-16:00
If you like blue fabrics then this is for you!
Spend a day with Liske exploring a variety of stitched and clamped shibori techniques
Shibori is a traditional Japanese resist-dyeing technique that involves tying, stitching, folding and clamping to re-direct the dye and create patterns in your fabric.
Create a selection of samples for use in future projects.

A fun, one-day workshop exploring the magical world of eco printing.
Spend a day creating beautiful prints on paper using leaves and flowers. You will be able to print a selection of papers and also a small book.
Learn a little about which plants work best and how to use different ‘blankets’ to create different backgrounds.

A new 2-day workshop for summer 2026.
Join Liske as she shares some of her favourite techniques.
We will use indigo to dye a collection of fabrics, using basic stitched shibori tecnhiques to add texture and pattern.
We will also spend some time creating cyanotype prints on paper and fabric.
Use a selection of your fabrics to create a boro or scroll style mini hanging with slow stitch.
£150 including all materials and refreshments.
Print the Coast :
Postcard Hanging

Saturday 18th July, 10:00-16:00
A new twist on a popular workshop - spend a day creating a coastal inspired hanging.
Delve into our hand printed fabrics (or bring your own) and add a layer of print using thermofax screens. No experience necessary.
We will work on a series of postcard sized pieces which will then be assembled into a hanging with additional layers of fabric. We will add further details through collage which could include found coastal items.
Finally begin to add texture with some creative hand stitching, the layer of stitch can be continued at home.
£75 including refreshments and most materials.
Summer School :
Seasons

Takes place over four days;
August 12th & 13th and 17th & 18th
With the seasons as our inspiration the four days will be broken down as follows;
12th & 13th August;
*Design work planning colours and thinking about composition, looking at work by other artists as inspiration
*Use thickened procion dyes to create a selection of fabrics and art cloth - primarily working with semi-transparent fabrics
*Add some print with thermofax screens and breakdown screen printing
17th & 18th August;
*Opportunity to add further layers of print if needed
*Explore simple hand and machine stitch techniques
*Composition - aim to create a pair of textile hangings inspired by your favourite seasons

Image Transfer : 2 ways

Tuesday 25th August 10:00-15:30
A new experimental workshop with Liske.
We will explore two ways in which to trasnfer images, either from magazines/newspapers, or your own imagery, onto fabric.
The first uses bondaweb and can be applied to any fabric with a smooth surface.
The second technique is paper lamination which uses matte medium through a stencil or thermofax screen in order to distort you image. This technique lends itself to sheer fabrics which can be layered up to create interesting possibilities!
£75 including most meterials and refreshments.
Indigo Tiles :
Dye, Print, Stitch

Friday 4th & Saturday 5th September, 10:00-15:30
Another new 2-day workshop with Liske & Claire, this time taking inspiration from beautiful tiles.
Day 1 - indigo dyeing 3 ways;
-Using stencils and print blocks along with a flour paste resist
-Under-printing fabrics with indian wooden blocks before dyeing in the indigo vat
-Dye some plain fabrics, creating a variety of shaes of blue
Day 2
-Make your own tile inspired blocks and print some additional fabrics
-We will then create a simple patchwork runner/hanging using your favourite peices of fabric

Lampshade :
Print & Make

Monday 21st September 2026 10:00-15:30
Join us for a relaxing day at the studio fabric printing and creating your own bespoke lampshade.
You will spend the morning printing your own fabric using thermofax screens as well as Indian wooden print blocks, no experience necessary, you will be given tuition on both techniques and plenty of time to practice before printing your own fabric for use on your final item(s).
The lampshades on offer are a 30cm drum style, a perfect update to any room.
No sewing involved.
Additional lampshade kits can be purchased on the day.

Mixed Media Collage :
Late Summer Landscape

Saturday 26th September 2026 10:00-16:00
In this workshop we will add colour and print to a variety of papers and fabrics. Colours will be inspired by your favourite view/landscape.
We will introduce you to thermofax screen printing and mono-printing in order to add pattern and line to some of your fabrics.
Pieces will be collaged together and then stitched to add a further layer of marks.
£75 including all materials and refreshments.
Lovely Little Pots

Thursday 15th October 10:00-16:00
Spend a mindful day at the studio with Liske creating a trio of lovely pots.
We'll create a collage of handprinted fabrics which will form the base of your beautiful stitch pots. Details will be add with couched threads, as well as transfer foils.
Sewing machine optional, the focus will be on hand stitching and if you're a beginner we'll intorduce you to our favourite stitches.
£75 including refreshments and all materials.
