Studio Days

Each month Liske runs a 'studio day' (sometimes two) in which you can come and take advantage of the space and facilities to work on your own projects. At the same time spending a creative day with like-minded people. 

You can make use of the screens, fabric paints, dyes and more. Or bring along your WIP & sewing machine... whatever takes your fancy!

Textile Explorations :
Maps and more

Each year from September through to June we run a once-a-month art textiles course on various weekdays;  Monday/Wednesday/Thursday/Friday 10:00-15:30

The next course will commence in September 2023, working to a theme of 'Maps and More' we will develop ideas, dye and print to build a collection of fabrics that will be used in creating a series of mini quilts/wall hangings/textile art pieces. Explore a variety of surface print techniques, as well as how to incorporate stitch as a final layer of marks/pattern. 

First refusal on places will be given to exisiting course participants but if you are interested in future courses then please drop us a message (you can use the 'contact/find us' page)

Liske & Claire are excitied to bring you a monthly Wednesday evening creative session, the focus of these will be on well-bring and mindfullness.

These sessions will be informal and suitable for all levels of experience. They are for anyone who enjoys being creative, trying new styles of work, and meeting like-minded people.

Numbers will be limited so you do need to book your place, the session will run from 7pm-9pm. 

£10 per session including materials and refreshments.

Stamp-Print-Paint

Thursday 13th April 2023, 10:00-15:00 *waiting list places only

Create your own collection of gorgeous, abstract, postcard sized prints on fabric.

Begin by making your own print block then go on to use this along with mark-making tools, stencils, stamps and themofax screens to build up layers of print. 

We will then go onto addinga layer of colour along with some added extras.

These can then be mounted individually, used on cards or transformed into a wall hanging, the possibilities are endless!

£65 including materials and refreshments.

Textile Collage & Stitch:
Seasons

Friday 21st & Saturday 22nd April 2023, 10:00-15:30 *2 places

In this new 2-day workshop we e will spend time exploring the changing colours of the seasons and creating a series of textile art pieces, perfect for framing.

Working with paper and fabric we will paint, do mark-making and print, before collaging to create a piece to represent each season. 

Stitch, either by hand or machine, will be added as a final layer. 

£135 including most materials and refreshments.

Dye & Print - 2 day introduction

Wednesday 3rd & Thursday 4th May 2023

Join Liske in the studio to explore colour and print on this fun and experimental 2-day course, perfect for beginners, or those wanting to replenish their stash of hand-dyed fabrics.

Over the two days we will work with procion dyes, both in liquid from and thickened to make a paste that we can print with. 

You will have time to dye a collection of fabric samples in shades of your chosen colours, or even do a rainbow to cover all bases! You will also try some tray dyeing to create interesting results.

As well as dyeing your fabrics you will have the opportunity to take advantage of our large collection of thermofax screens to add pattern/imagery to your fabrics.

£135 including most materials and refreshments. Own fabric required (can be ordered from us)

Forage & Print :Wild Flower Concertina book

Saturday 13th May 2023, 10:00-15:30 *waiting list places only

On this delightful workshop you'll spend the morning taking prints from wild flowers foraged from your garden or local walks.

We will show you how to use a gelli plate to create stunning prints as well as printing directly from the foliage onto a selection of papers and fabrics.

You will then use your favourite prints to create a totally unique mixed media concertina book. 

£65 including most materials and refreshments.

Indigo : Dye, Patch & Quilt

Course is made up of 3 Monday sessiosns 10:00-15:00; 

June 5th, 12th & 26th

This is a new collaboration for 2023. Liske is joining forces with @Gillymakes to bring you a 3-part course in which you will end up with a hand-dyed patchwork quilt!

Session 1 - indigo shbori dyeing day - we will provide you with a bundle of egyption cotton and Liske will teach you some shibori techniques in order to create a variety of exciting patterns on your fabrics. 

 

Session 2 - bring back your rinsed out fabrics and begin to cut and piece together the top of your quilt which will be approx 1m sqaure - ideal for a cot quilt, throw, or picnic blanket. Gilly will guide you along the way and give tips on cutting and stitching to acheive a perfect finish and show off your favourite dyed fabrics.

Session 3- finishing off! Hvaing had time to add some hand stitch details at home, in this session Gilly will give guidance on machine quilting 'stitch in the ditch' and bidning your quilt so that you leave with a finished piece!

Colour & Print on Fabric : Art Cloth Retreat

6th, 7th and 8th July 2023, 10:00-15:30

Join Liske and Claire for 3-days exploring colour,and print on fabric in order to create unique layered pieces of what we call 'art cloth'.

*Work with thickened procion dyesand fabric paint to build up colour and pattern.

*Thermofax screen printing,.. make use of our wide selection of screens

*Introduction to breakdown screen printing

*Opportunity to create your own lino block/hand made stamp to print with

*Use stencils/masks with a screen in order to create bold shapes

*Consider the possibilities of applique to add bold shapes/contrast to your cloth.

We will work primarily on cotton & linen, as well as exploring some lighter wieght fabrics to offer a variety of textures

The Joy of Indigo: 
Shibori, Katagami & Katazome

Wednesday 12th & Thursday 13th July 2023

We are excited to bring you a new indigo dyeing technique this summer to complement the magic of shibori.

Rachele Dickie will be joining Liske to share her experience of Katagami and Katazome.

Ise Katagami is this Japanese art of stencil cutting intricate designs into a special waterproof paper. 

Katazome is the process of resist dyeing textiles usng a rice paste which is applied to the cloth through the stencil.

On this workshop we will look at images of traditional Japanese designs and have a go at cutting our own simple stencils in which to apply a paste through. You will also learn how to use commercial stencils to apply the paste and create a collection of samples.

All samples will be indigo dyed. You will learn how to build depth with multiple dips into the dye.

You will also be taught a variety of shibori dyeing tehcniques.

Shibori is a Japanese resist dyeing method used to create bold patterns in the fabric. Techniques include folding, wrapping, clamping and stitching to create a resist.

Summer School 2023

This 4-day course will run twice over the summer;

24th & 25th July and 1st & 2nd August 2023 *1 place

8th & 9th August and 15th & 16th August 2023 *waiting list places only

This course will follow a similar format to last year; 2 wet days in week 1, followed by 2 dry days the following week;

Bring along your own theme/source of inspiration or join me exploring buildings/architecture - I'll be casting my mind back to a lovely Itallian town I visited last May!

During the first week we'll create a collection of fabrics using techniques such as; breakdown printing, thermofax screen printing, mark making, wax resist

In the second week bring back your rinsed out fabrics ready to cut, collage, stitch, layer and assamble.

Indian Summer:
Textile Collage

Saturday 9th September 2023

A lovely workshop to end summer, this course will combine indian block printing, collage and slow stitch, all using glorious vintage sari silks and hand dyed fabrics.

Create your own block printed fabric collection and collage these together with vintage fabrics, then hand stitch in a boro style to create a mini quilt that could be framed, made into a cushion or even a panel for a bag.

£65 including materials and refreshments.

Print & Make : Zero Waste Reversible Apron

Friday 15th September 2023, 10:00-16:00

We’re collaborating with Jenniffer Taylor, author of 'Girl with a Sewing Machine' and 'Your Skirt Your Way' to bring back this lovely workshop!
You will spend the morning with Liske, printing your own fabric using thermofax screens and wooden printing blocks.
Then after lunch Jenni will show you how to transform your piece of fabric into a fabulous reversible Artisan Apron.

Sashiko Sampler Day

Interested in learning more about this beautiful 'Little Stab' stitch called Sashiko?
Join Jenniffer Taylor for a day of gentle stitching, while learning the basics of what makes this stitch so unique and versatile, as well as how to create different sashiko patterns.

Create a sampler piece of fabric that could become a cusion, table runner or bag panel.

Sewing the Seeds : Autumnal natural dyeing & print with Jo Smith

One Monday a month for 3 months; 11th September, 9th October & 13th November 2023

A calming and nurturing course which will gently guide you into the magical world of plant dyes and prints, deepening your connection with nature. 

This course will take you from autumn into winter, and is suitable for beginners as well as those with some knowledge, there is always something new to learn.

Perfect for nature lovers who like to create, and for creative people who love nature. 

Over the course we will work with plants and foliage from this particular time of year to develop a beautiful palette of naturally dyed fabrics and threads.

You will also have time to create a hand stitched cloth book in which to record your dyeing journey,

Print & Make:Lampshade

Thursday 26th October 2023 10:00-15:00

Join us for a relaxing day at the studio fabric printing and creating either a pair of lovely lanterns or your own bespoke lampshade.

You will spend the morning printing your own fabric using thermofax screens as well as Indian wooden print blocks, no experience necessary, you will be given tuition on both techniques and plenty of time to practice before printing your own fabric for use on your final item(s).

When combined with a tea light or some fairy lights the lanterns give out a lovely glow, and the lampshades on offer are a 30cm drum style, a perfect update to any room..

No sewing involved.

Additional lantern/ lampshade kits can be purchased on the day.

Autumn Leaves: Monoprinting with a gelliplate

Saturday 28th October, 10:00-15:30

Under the expert guidance of Claire Lundy spend a creative day exploring the possibilities of gelli plate printing.

Using local leaves and some other mark-making materials we will work onto fabric and papers layering colour and pattern to create a wonderful collection of samples. After lunch we will will spend time focusing on collaging together some of your pieces to create an exciting piece of art, or perhaps a folded book form.

£70 including refreshments and most materials. 

Colour Families & Mark-making 2-day course

29th & 30th January 2024

A must-do course for anyone interested in dyeing their own fabrics!

Spend a colourful couple of days at the studio learning how to use procion MX dyes to develop an extensive pallette. 

Create harmonious colour families and go on to explore these colours further with various mark-making techniques and thermofax printing.

You will build up a detailed visual reference of a number of colour schemes on fabric as well as learning the method to explore any colour and value scheme of your choice. 

You will also create exciting pieces of cloth along the way!

£150 including refreshments and most materials.
