Textile Explorations :
Maps and more

Each year from September through to June we run a once-a-month art textiles course on various weekdays;  Monday/Wednesday/Thursday/Friday 10:00-15:30

​

The next course will commence in September 2023, working to a theme of 'Maps and More' we will develop ideas, dye and print to build a collection of fabrics that will be used in creating a series of mini quilts/wall hangings/textile art pieces. Explore a variety of surface print techniques, as well as how to incorporate stitch as a final layer of marks/pattern.

Studio Days

Each month Liske runs a 'studio day' (sometimes two) in which you can come and take advantage of the space and facilities to work on your own projects. At the same time spending a creative day with like-minded people. 

You can make use of the screens, fabric paints, dyes and more. Or bring along your WIP & sewing machine... whatever takes your fancy!

Liske & Claire are excitied to bring you a monthly Wednesday evening creative session, the focus of these will be on well-bring and mindfullness.

These sessions will be informal and suitable for all levels of experience. They are for anyone who enjoys being creative, trying new styles of work, and meeting like-minded people.

Numbers will be limited so you do need to book your place, the session will run from 7pm-9pm.

Print & Make:Lampshade

Join us for a relaxing day at the studio fabric printing and creating either a pair of lovely lanterns or your own bespoke lampshade.

You will spend the morning printing your own fabric using thermofax screens as well as Indian wooden print blocks, no experience necessary, you will be given tuition on both techniques and plenty of time to practice before printing your own fabric for use on your final item(s).

When combined with a tea light or some fairy lights the lanterns give out a lovely glow, and the lampshades on offer are a 30cm drum style, a perfect update to any room..

No sewing involved.

Additional lantern/ lampshade kits can be purchased on the day.

Spend a fun and creative couple of hours at the studio making your own unique, beautiful and sustainable chrsitmas wreath from scratch.

Becky will guide you and provide a wide range of foliage and  items which you can decorate your wreath with.

Festive Bobbin Trees :

Come and spend the day creating a festive hand stitched bobbin tree with Laura Houel, a textile artist and tutor based in Warwickshire.

 

Laura creates textiles predominantly using vintage, found and repurposed materials and is forever searching at car boots, charity shops and antiques centres for textile ‘treasure’.

 

During this workshop you will be guided through creating your own beautiful hand stitched bobbin tree using a variety of vintage fabrics, lace and thread and will have the chance to embellish with buttons and beads to make this a truly unique and personal addition to your festive decor! 

 

You will receive a pack of materials on the day to create your tree but please feel free to bring along any special bits of lace or fabric (snippets of lace or fabric from old garments, buttons, even old bits of jewellery) to incorporate into your piece to make it extra special.

Colour Families & Mark-making 2-day course

A must-do course for anyone interested in dyeing their own fabrics!

Spend a colourful couple of days at the studio learning how to use procion MX dyes to develop an extensive pallette. 

Create harmonious colour families and go on to explore these colours further with various mark-making techniques and thermofax printing.

You will build up a detailed visual reference of a number of colour schemes on fabric as well as learning the method to explore any colour and value scheme of your choice. 

You will also create exciting pieces of cloth along the way!

Mosaic Landscape :
Gelli-print & Collage

A new workshop for 2024... create a vibrant landscape inspired by the paintings of Dutch artist Ton Schulten.

​

Begin by creating your own coloured papers using a gelli plate to add beautiful texture - don't worry if you've never used a gelli plate before, we will guide you through it.

​

We will then look at composition and begin to collage together your chosen landscape. You can work directly onto a canvas and leave with a ready to hang piece of art! 

Finished piece will be 30cm x 30cm

​

Print the Coast : Art Cloth

Join Liske and Claire for 2-days exploring coastal inspired colour,and print on fabric in order to create unique, layered pieces of 'art cloth'.

*Work with thickened procion dyes and fabric paint to build up colour and pattern.

*Thermofax screen printing,.. make use of our wide selection of screens

*Introduction to breakdown screen printing

*Rubbings from seashells to create texture

*Gelli plate printing with found beach treasure & coastal stencils

Slow Stitch Stories
with Jo Smith

One Monday a month for 3 months; 11th March, 15th April & 13th May 2024, 10:00-16:00

 

A slow stitch – hand stitch seasonal textile course.

​

Most of us have a large quantity of dyed and printed fabrics and threads and are not sure of what to do next with them.

With the seasons and nature as a starting point, this course will guide you in using these fabrics to design a background of layered fabrics and print, along with hand stitch to hold the fabrics and create the surface detail. As you go along you decide what stitches to use to create a unique textile piece. This will be a slow stitching experience, learning new stitches or practising existing ones in a new way. An opportunity to slow down, take your time and enjoy the journey.

Textile Collage:
Spring Flowers

Saturday 23rd March, 10:00-16:00

​

Spend a colourful day creating a vibrant vase of tulips or hydrangeas that will last forever.

Liske & Claire will guide you through the porcess of creating your collage, and sharing some short-cuts along the way! You can use your own fabric off-cuts or take advantage of our hand-dyed and printed fabrics. You will also have a chance to print your own fabrics for the vase.

Your finished piece will be A3 size, and perfect to frame or mount on a canvas.

Sewing machine and some sewing experience required.

Twisted Pouch

Spend the morning printing your own fabric with Liske before you learn how to make a beautiful twisted pouch with Jenniffer Taylor. This is a versatile make that can be used as a crafty caddy, plant pot, storage, gift presentation and much more. Learn how to create and construct this fully lined and unusual pouch. The size you will be making in class is approx. 20cm squared. Beginners welcome
Own sewing machine required.

Sashiko: Stitch the Seasons with Jenniffer Taylor

A new course for 2023, you can book onto all four sessions or dip in and out if you prefer.

Inspired by the changing seasons this course will introduce you to the simplistic beauty of sashiko stitching and it's hidden meanings,  messages and history.

​

Each session will focus on three design elements; 

Seasonal Motif Design

Moyozashi Sashiko Pattern (patterned sashiko)

Hitomezashi Sashiko Pattern (one stitch sashiko)

The designs can be incorporated into one larger piece or a series of small pieces. The stitches can also be used to repeair or decorate garments.

​

Breakdown Printing & Experimental Screen Print

We’re excited to offer a 3-day experimental screen printing & breakdown printing course next spring.

Enjoy a colourful 3 days at the studio and leave with a stash of hand printed fabrics ready for your next project!
We will be primarily working with thickened dyes and a blank screen! We will cover these techniques, plus more if time allows...

Permission to play!

Create your own collection of gorgeous, abstract, postcard sized prints on fabric.

Enjoy using a selection mark-making tools, found objects, stencils, stamps and themofax screens to build up layers of print. 

We will then go onto adding a layer of colour along with some added extras.

These can then be mounted individually, used on cards or transformed into a wall hanging, the possibilities are endless!

A fun mixed media creative day!

Work in a single colour, spend a day experimenting with mark-making, monoprinting, and using handmade stamps and pends to create a collection of samples on paper and fabric. These can be developed into larger pieces of work. 

​

Indigo: Shibori & Stitch

Spend a day exploring the magic of indigo. 

We will introduce you to some basic shibori techniques. Shibori is a Japanese resist dyeing method used to create bold patterns in the fabric. Techniques include folding, wrapping, clamping and stitching to create a resist. 

​

You will create a stash of samples.

This workshop is suitable for beginners, or those with more experience wishing to top up their collection of indigo blues.

​

£75 including most materials and refreshments. You're welcome to bring along additional fabrics to dyes. 

Mind Bloom, Mindful Stitching with
Jenniffer Taylor

Jenni will provide you with everything you need to create a beautiful and unique embroidery of a peaceful face with floral adornment, 

​

Quiet your mind with a little mindful stitching and playful applique.

You'll be walked through a veriety of stitches to enable you to make the piece unique to you.

The Joy of Indigo: Shibori, Katagami & Katazome

Friday 5th & Saturday 6th July 2024

​

We are excited to bring back this wonderful indigo dyeing technique this summer to complement the magic of shibori.

​

Rachele Dickie will be joining Liske to share her experience of Katagami and Katazome.

Ise Katagami is this Japanese art of stencil cutting intricate designs into a special waterproof paper. 

Katazome is the process of resist dyeing textiles usng a rice paste which is applied to the cloth through the stencil.

​

On this workshop we will look at images of traditional Japanese designs and have a go at cutting our own simple stencils in which to apply a paste through. You will also learn how to use commercial stencils to apply the paste and create a collection of samples.

​

All samples will be indigo dyed. You will learn how to build depth with multiple dips into the dye.

You will also be taught a variety of shibori dyeing tehcniques.

​

Shibori is a Japanese resist dyeing method used to create bold patterns in the fabric. Techniques include folding, wrapping, clamping and stitching to create a resist. 

​

Friday 26th & Saturday 27th July 2024

Join Claire & Liske in the studio for 2-days embracing all things botanical. This will be a mixed media workshop using foraged flowers and leaves as our inspiration we will explore; gelli plate monoprinting, hand made stencils, cyanotype printing, mark making,

Working on paper and fabric will will pick some favourites to create a collaged piece of art which can then be stitched into.

Eco-Printing day with Jo Smith

A fun, one-day workshop exploring the magical world of eco printing.

Learn a little about which leaves work best, plus different ways to lay out and bind the fabrics/papers to get a variety of effects.

This course is suitable for beginners or those with a little experience of ecoprinting.

Dye & Print - 2 day introduction

Thursday 11th & Friday 12th September 2024

​

Join Liske in the studio to explore colour and print on this fun and experimental 2-day course, perfect for beginners, or those wanting to replenish their stash of hand-dyed fabrics.

Over the two days we will work with procion dyes, both in liquid from and thickened to make a paste that we can print with. 

You will have time to dye a collection of fabric samples in shades of your chosen colours, or even do a rainbow to cover all bases! You will also try some tray dyeing to create interesting results.

As well as dyeing your fabrics you will have the opportunity to take advantage of our large collection of thermofax screens to add pattern/imagery to your fabrics.

Patch & Stitch: Still Life

Saturday 28th September 2024, 10:00-15:30

​

Join Liske and Claire on this new workshop. Bring your own fabrics or delve into our stash of hand dyed and printed fabrics to create a background using an improvised log cabin with a twist.

We willl then applique and stitch a simple still life design  onto your pieced background to create a quilted piece of approximately 40cm square which could be framed or attached to a canvas.

​

£75 including most materials and refreshments. Own sewing machine required.

Print & Stitch: 
Origami Oversized Bag

Saturday 5th October 2024, 10:00-16:00

​

Another exciting collaboration with Jenniffer Taylor, Great British Sewing Bee & Author of Girl With a Sewing Machine.
 

In this print & stitch workshop you will spend the morning printing up some exciting fabrics using thermofax screens and wooden blocks, these will then be transformed into a wonderful Japanese origami style shoulder bag along with some upcycled demin or plain fabrics.

£80 including most materials and refreshments. Own sewing machine required.
